Oklahoma Wrestling Academy
Sport – Wrestling (Collegiate, Freestyle, Greco-Roman)
Location – Edmond and Norman, Oklahoma
Owner – Hardell Moore
Despite being around for such a short amount of time, the Oklahoma Wrestling Academy (OWA) has quickly made a name for itself on the club wrestling scene. In only four years of existence, the OWA has seen a steady rise and has become a hotbed for wrestling in Oklahoma and nationally as well. The OWA was founded by Hardell Moore in 2013 and serves as the first year-round wrestling club of its kind in the state of Oklahoma. Prior to opening and operating the OWA, Moore coached for 14 years at the Edmond Generals wrestling club. Although Moore serves as the founder and head coach of the OWA, he credits two parents at his former club, Carl Belford and Steve Asbury, for the original idea.
What is OWA?
Oklahoma Wrestling Academy is Oklahoma’s only year round wrestling academy. OWA is a facility for ALL Oklahoma wrestlers from age 4 through college, that want to take their skills to the next level. OWA will not take anything from other youth wrestling clubs, Jr. High or High school programs. They believe that Iron Sharpens Iron and at any given time you will see multiple champions from multiple schools and clubs training together, from different programs & schools across the state.
Think of OWA as the extra practice, drill session or that added benefit that all wrestlers need to get better and improve their skills. OWA offer multiple memberships to fit every athletes needs from novice to experienced State and National champions.
What can OWA do for your wrestler?
OWA is able to help wrestlers in multiple areas. The club offers great coaching, the coaches in this facility are highly respected in the wrestling community, have wrestled on all levels and have been in every situation a wrestler can think of.
OWA is helping put Oklahoma back on the map for wrestling, the academy is now a hotspot that colleges across the country visit during recruiting of college wrestlers. In the last 3 years over 23 OWA Elite members have received scholarships to multiple colleges including: Duke University, OSU, Bacone, OU and West Virginia just to name a few.
Repetition is the key for any wrestler regardless of what level they are on, the best wrestlers in the world drill hundreds of shots, counters, tilts, etc. every day to sharpen their skills. OWA will help your wrestler get to that next level and accomplish their goals on and off the mat.
Benefits for High School coaches
OWA wants to give the high school coaches a peace of mind to know that their wrestlers are putting in that extra work that will help them get to that next level. In part it will help that high school and continue to build Oklahoma wrestling as a whole. OWA does not take away from any high school program, OWA adds to it by becoming that place where ALL wrestlers can come together and sharpen their skills, whenever they like.
The OWA Mission
OWA provides an opportunity for young men & women to build character and values through the great sport of wrestling. Our mission is to assist them in reaching their highest potential in wrestling, leadership, life & community. We believe that the sport of wrestling instills life long lessons in many areas of their lives. These include responsibility, sportsmanship, teamwork, commitment, perseverance, self discipline, loyalty, ethics and accomplishment. OWA recognizes the significant contributions made by its athletes and seeks to promote their well-being and to foster an environment that will prepare members for both a livelihood and a rewarding life.
The sport of Wrestling can use OWA success as a road map for more wrestling clubs across the country. Increasing the number of wrestlers in all disciplines and giving more opportunities to more kids.
